Abstract. S. M. Tseitlin’s archive is stored in the Laboratory of Paleoecology of Transbaikal State University. The archive’s materials were used as the basis for the book “For the benefit and development of Russian science” (Novosibirsk, 2005), a part of which was devoted to the research activity of S. M Tseitlin, his teacher in science V. I. Gromov, and his friend and colleague D.-D. B. Bazarov. The archive contains field diaries of S. M. Tseitlin with his notes and observations on the geology of Paleolithic sites scattered over a vast area from the Don to the Lena. S. M. Tseitlin paid great attention to the study of ancient Transbaikalian sites such as Ust-Menza, Studenoe, Priiskovoe, Melnichnoe, Kunalei etc., discovered by the Chikoi Archaeological Expedition from the Transbaikal State University. He did a lot to determine the geological age of cultural layers and to describe the stratotypes of the Selenga river basin.
