Abstract. The article is devoted to the interpretation of the traces associated with the production of rock art images of the Kaikuul cliff on the Pegtymel River in Chukotka. Discovered by N. N. Dikov in 1968, they continue to be studied nowadays. In order to verify the obtained data, as well as to study the mechanical and physical properties of materials (both those by which the images were made and those on which the images were made), an experimental program was carried out using both stone and metal implements. As a result, we can speak about the diversity of technologies used to produce the Pegtymel petroglyphs. In addition to traditional ways of applying such methods as picketage, engraving, hatching, and grinding techniques, one can observe more complex variants of combinations and sequences of these processing techniques, as well as the use of diverse materials in the course of creating the petroglyphs.
